The Early Days (1903-1940s) When Scottish migrants brought bowls to Melbourne in the 1860s, they planted the seeds of something special. By 1903, when Middle Park Bowling Club was founded, we were one of 33 clubs in Melbourne – but we were different. While most clubs treated women as "associate members," our Ladies had their own club from day one, dominating Melbourne bowls and winning the top pennant flag seven times between 1913 and 1925.

Our men weren't slouches either – claiming the prestigious White Flag in 1923, a feat we're still chasing today. Those early decades established our reputation for excellence, though the Great Depression tested our resolve like never before.

The Golden Era (1945-1965) Post-war Melbourne was ready to bowl, and Middle Park became the beating heart of the community. Our membership soared to 413 in 1956, fielding eight Saturday teams and three midweek Ladies sides. We weren't just a bowling club anymore – we were where the neighbourhood came together, celebrated, and belonged.

Weathering the Storm (1965-2005) Like many clubs, we faced challenges as Melbourne changed around us. But here's what kept us going: those legendary greens. From R. Hoskins (1923-1937) to the internationally renowned Allan Vance (1939-1971), our greenkeepers have been artists. Their legacy lives on in every perfectly manicured blade of grass.

The Renaissance (2005-Today) Something magical happened in 2005 – we rediscovered our community spirit. Young families returned, social members embraced the club, and suddenly we were buzzing again. Today, we're not just surviving; we're thriving. Our Saturday Pennant teams compete across Divisions 1, 2, 4, and 6, our facilities are being lovingly restored, and our future has never looked brighter.
